BREIF MODEL HISTORY

In 1999 Mitsubishi produced a special edition Lancer GSR EVO 6 which was developed to highlight Tommi Makinen’s fourth WRC rally championship victory in a Mitsubishi Lancer.  The T.M edition is considered by many as the high point of Mitsubishi’s rally car based street editions.  The model featured a number of upgrades to the suspension and chassis along with various exterior and trim details bespoke to the special edition. Approximately 2,500 were produced.

There were two models of the Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen edition , the GSR (Gran Sport Racing) and the RS (Rally Sport).

The GSR version was designed for street use and daily driving.  It came equipped with many amenities offering comfort and convenience, such as air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and a more refined interior.  This version was favored by enthusiasts who wanted a high-performance car that could also serve as a practical daily driver.

The RS version was geared towards motorsport and performance-oriented driving, particularly rally racing.  It was often stripped of many non-essential features to reduce weight and improve performance.  The RS model typically had a more Spartan interior with fewer creature comforts to minimize weight and focus on performance.  This version was preferred by drivers seeking maximum performance and agility on the track or in competitive rallying.
